Wild Botswana

This trip is all about wild Botswana: vast pristine wilderness and abundant game life. You start in the dry Kalahari and experience the emptiness of this huge reserve. Moving to the Makgadikgadi you might see big herds of zebras and wildebeest along the Boteti river. Next you travel to Chobe and view the mighty river with its floodplains teeming with all kinds of game. Riding through deep sand to Savuti, you will enter an area that is famous for its predators. From there you go to Moremi, renowned for its wild dogs.
You drive a Toyota Hilux double cab 4×4 well equipped to negotiate the rough terrain. The roof tent and complete equipment make camping easy. Included are a GPS to find the way in the bush and a Satellite telephone for communication in remote places.

Itinerary
Day 1 Maun
You collect the 4 x 4 at the airport and receive a comprehensive 1-2 hour briefing of the vehicle and the equipment. Plenty of time to put forward all your questions. After that you have time to shop before going to the campsite close to Maun.
Day 2 Central Kalahari
Some last shopping, then you drive to the Central Kalahari game reserve. You camp at a remote spot with the next campsite more than 8 kilometers away. The nearby waterhole attracts many animals during the dry season with predators in their wake.
Day 3 Central Kalahari
On the way to your next campsite, you drive through bushes and a broad valley. When the temperature rises during the day, even ostriches seek shelter in the shade. It is amazing how many springbok can fit under one tree.
Day 4 Central Kalahari
The road winds through an impressive valley to your next campsite. In summer you can see big herds of gemsbok and springbok, and even in winter there is always some game around.
Day 5 Kubu Island
You continue on a fascinating trip to Kubu Island. Enjoy the vastness and white splendor of the saltpans till you arrive at this amazing island, covered with baobabs and rocks. Hard to believe that thousands of years ago the pans were filled with water and people lived on this island.
Day 6 Nata
You drive through a varied landscape with grass plains, mopano forest, baobabs, and remote villages to your next campsite at Nata.
Day 7 Kasane
The route leads you to Kasane, gateway to Chobe National Park. On the way you will probably see some game, like giraffes and elephants. In the afternoon you make a fantastic boattrip on the Chobe river to enjoy the elephants and hippo’s and hear the cry of the fish eagle.
Day 8 Chobe Riverfront
Breathtaking are the panoramic views on the Chobe river with its floodplains dotted with game. You may meet big herds of elephants and buffalos drinking at the river. The campsite at the river bank offers an amazing view during daytime and a wonderful experience of the African night.
Day 9 Chobe Riverfront
Enjoy another day at in this fantastic area.
Day 10 Savute
You drive through deep sand to Savute, an area well known for its predators and bull elephants. Since 2007 the Savute Channel is flowing again, so also in the dry season there is plenty of game around.
Day 11 Savute
Explore the area around Savute. You can visit the rock paintings on the nearby Bushman’s Paintings Hills, which gives you a nice opportunity to stretch your legs.
Day 12 Khwai
Travel to the river Kwai. This is a place abundant with wildlife and birds. Pools are almost overflowing with hippos and from your campsite you can watch the elephants feeding and cooling themselves in the river.
Day 13 Moremi
After driving through a river you enter the Moremi Game Reserve. The route takes you along the Khwai flood plain. Here you find the lechwes with their splayed feet and beautiful pools with of hippos and birds.
Day 14 Maun
Back to Maun where you return the car. This last night no tinned food and a tent, but a real dinner and a proper bed.
